State Food and Civil Supplies Minister Jyotipriya Mallik told that under the scheme, the government aims to enroll more than 30 lakh farmers. According to Jyotipriya Mallik, out of about 72 lakh paddy farmers in the state of West Bengal, 13 lakh have registered themselves for this scheme. Jyotipriya Mallik said that “We are planning to reach out to more and more farmers for the purpose of procuring paddy to maintain uninterrupted supply of rice for our public distribution system. The scheme will be launched soon and we will start procuring paddy later this month. ” Through this scheme, farmers will also compensate for the loss of price due to high yield of paddy. Execution Of WB Kharif Paddy Procurement Scheme
- Jyotipriya Mallik said that “We are planning to put a ceiling on the amount of paddy to be purchased from each farmer. This will help us to recruit more and more farmers under this scheme. “
- The government is planning to buy about 45 quintals of paddy from each farmer.
- Last year, at the MSP of Rs 1,868 per quintal, maximum grain was purchased for every farmer up to 90 quintals. Therefore, this year the government is preparing this scheme to make maximum purchases for the benefit of farmers.
- The price of purchasing food grains from farmers has not yet been decided in the plan. This will be decided keeping in mind the interests of the farmers.
- Under the scheme, a special monitoring system will be set up in the state whose task will be to find out whether the nominated farmers sell their crops to the government and not to hoarders.

Paddy productivity is highest in this kharif crop season and due to low demand, the prices of paddy are affected, which the farmer has to suffer without being guilty. Paddy prices have also fallen below the minimum support price (MSP) announced by the government this season. To overcome this problem, the government of West Bengal is planning to put a ceiling on the amount of paddy that 90 quintals of grain can be purchased from each farmer.
